What is a Removable Bridge?

Removable bridges or removable partial dentures are appliances made to replace one or more missing teeth in an arch.

Depending on your situation, a removable bridge may be for you. Removable bridges usually have replacement teeth attached to gum -colored plastic bases connected by metal framework.  They may attach to your natural teeth with metal clasps or devises called precision attachments.  Crowns on your natural teeth may improve the way a removable bridge fits your mouth.

Inserting and removing the new removable bridge will take some practice.  It may feel awkward for the first few weeks. However, your mouth will become accustomed to it.  The bridge should fit into place with relative ease.

Once your missing teeth are replaced, eating should be a much more pleasant experience. Since missing teeth can make it difficult to speak clearly, wearing a removable bridge can help with that, too.

Over time, as you age and your mouth changes, it may be necessary to replace your removable bridge.  Also, from time to time, a rebase of the gum portion of the removable may be necessary to improve the fit and keep the bridge comfortable.

Removable bridges should be taken out at night before sleep and for cleaning.

If you think you are a good candidate for a removable bridge call us.  We’d love to see you.
