Why do my fillings need to be replaced?
Fillings that are worn or have pulled away from the teeth leave tiny gaps at the filling edges that allow decay causing bacteria to enter that cannot be easily removed with a toothbrush o any other means. Decay may develop along the ege of the filling or even underneath it. When the dentist uses his explorer to examine the edges, he checks for the wear. X-rays will let him know if decay is underneath the filling since he cannot visually see that without that information.
